Make the Bao Buns / Taco Shells

  • In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, yeast, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add warm water and mix until dough forms. Then add vegetable shortening and knead until smooth (about 5 minutes).
  • Place dough in a bowl, coat lightly in oil, cover, and let rise ~1 hour until doubled.
  • After rising, roll out dough to ~¼ inch thickness, use a 3-inch cutter to cut circles. Brush oil on top, fold in half, and gently roll over to shape the bao.
  • Steam buns in a bamboo steamer or electric steamer for 15 minutes, spaced apart.

Prepare the Chicken

  • Slice chicken thighs into thin strips. Season thoroughly with Blazing Star Beef Rub.
  • Place chicken strips in a bowl of corn starch and ensure all sides are coated.
